About Us

Who We Are

Welcome to Alameda and thank you for your interest in our church family! It is our constant prayer that God will bless us with the opportunity to share faith and life with more and more people, and you are an answer to that simple prayer.

The Alameda Church of Christ exists for the purpose of developing committed followers of Jesus Christ. As His disciples, we aspire to exalt God in worship and giving, encounter God in prayer, encourage one another in fellowship, edify others through acts of service, equip believers through teaching and ministry, and evangelize our community and the world through proclamation and missions. We call these expectations the “Six E’s” of discipleship. Simply put, our commitment is to encourage, equip, and empower our members to faithfully carry out their God-given purpose.

At Alameda, you will find a congregation of authentic Christians who are doing their best to follow Jesus. We are not perfect—far from it—but we have placed our faith in a perfect Savior who helps us overcome our weaknesses and gives us the strength to walk through a fallen and broken world. Our lives have been so changed by Christ that we want everyone to experience the hope, joy, peace, purpose, grace, and love that we have found in Him. I hope you will decide to join us in our efforts to share the hope-filling message of Christ with our community and the world. Rusty Tugman (Senior Minister)

Alameda Church of Christ is...

A Bible-based church.

We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and we submit to its teachings in our worship, ministry, and personal lives because the Bible reveals God’s character, our purpose, and life’s meaning. We do not look to any outside creed for direction and we are free of denominational power structures. We simply desire to be the kind of church prescribed in the New Testament.

A safe place to ask questions.

All of us have questions about God, Jesus, and the Bible, but sometimes we don’t know where to go for answers. At Alameda, people are free to ask any question they want and admit their struggles without the fear of being laughed at or scorned. Here, we realize that we are all sinners in need of a Savior.

A loving family and a community of Christian servants.

At the Alameda Church of Christ you will find loyal friends who will be there for you when you need them. We also encourage each other to use our gifts and resources to serve God and brighten the lives of others.

A Brief History of Alameda...

Central Church of Christ began meeting at the turn of the century in a house on Tonhawa and Crawford Streets. In the 1930’s, the congregation moved to a structure across the street from the original site. In 1967, Central Church of Christ moved to its present location at 801 E. Alameda.

In 1945, 17 members of the Central church established the University Church of Christ near the OU campus to better serve students’ needs. They purchased the old Methodist Church building at Webster and Linn in 1947 and in 1965 replaced the old building with the existing structure.

In 1957, Central Church of Christ, in a joint effort with the University Church of Christ, established the Westside Church of Christ at Boyd and McGee Streets in Norman.

In 1979, the Central and University congregations merged as the Alameda Church of Christ. Because of the available space and the great location, the new congregation chose the Central building and grounds for its new location. The University building was sold, with the funds being applied to the purchase of additional land and the construction of additional facilities.

Today Alameda continues to be a dynamic congregation with a broad range of ministries to meet the needs of our diverse community.
